@Catha - I get you - I still waited on the physical for Alan Wake 2. Was also improved by then with updates

Luckily we arent starved for games at the moment - too many releases

This all is starting to seem rather deliberate from publishers. Absolute scum

@Tea - it's pretty sad. Like Physical needs any more blows

Going to suck, navigating the minefield of spoilers. Already a 2 day early access perk for deluxe digital. Now a further 3 weeks.

I suppose it's better than the year that AW2 had to wait.

Ten Great RPGs You Can Play on a Low-End PC in 2026

by Sam Aberdeen on 03 August, 2026

    1   2

If you’re one of the many gamers making a jump from console to PC lately but you can only get a modest rig for now, fear not because we’ve got a list of a few great RPGs you can play on a low-end PC in 2026. These aren’t very taxing on your PC in terms of requirements and most will run fairly well today if you’re looking to scratch a specific itch and explore some classic role-playing greatness.

First and foremost, we aren’t going to list random RPGs that are difficult to find or don’t have listings on digital platforms. Each and every one of the following games are available to purchase on GOG (Good Old Games), which we strongly recommend you check out if you’re passionate about game preservation but also want great games at relatively low prices.

Fallout: New Vegas

Price: R193 (currently R77 on sale)

What better way to start off this list than with one of the greatest RPGs ever made? For many, Fallout: New Vegas isn’t just the best game in the series, it’s a crowning achievement for RPG game design and Obsidian Entertainment’s magnum opus. Set within the universe of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic Fallout games, New Vegas puts players in the shoes of the Courier, who is left for dead in the Mojave desert and awakens to a civil war brewing for control of the New Vegas strip.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Price: R145 for Morrowind (currently R58 on sale) and R193 for Oblivion (currently R48 on sale)

We’re cheating this entry as it’s technically two games in one slot but The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion both rank among some of the finest RPGs Bethesda has ever made. GOG also includes the Game of the Year editions for both titles which means you also get all available DLC with the games, adding even more hours on top of the hundreds of hours you’ll likely spend on them.

Dragon Age: Origins

Price: R193 (currently R77 on sale)

Depending on who you ask, Dragon Age: Origins is the best game in the franchise and one of developer BioWare’s best games to date. What separates Origins from its sequels is the staggering role-playing freedom it offers and the sheer amount of effort made so that all of your choices matter. They can reshape the story and characters, giving the game tons of replayability. As long as you wrap your head around the slightly dated combat, you’ll probably have a really good time.

Diablo

Price: R96

Back to where it all began, the original Diablo is still a fan-favourite among Blizzard’s community thanks to its isolated setting, rewarding progression loop, and charm as an old-school action-RPG. The graphics aren’t anything to write home about today but the solid writing, atmosphere, and addictive gameplay will keep you thoroughly engaged. The game’s GOG listing also includes the popular Hellfire expansion, which adds the Monk class on top of new locations, dungeons, enemies and gear.

Jade Empire

Price: R145 (currently R36 on sale)

Now we dive deeper into the RPG genre with Jade Empire, an oft-forgotten BioWare gem. Taking everything that made Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic special while refining the gameplay, Jade Empire offers plenty of role-playing paths and progression that significantly impact the story. It’s another fascinating example of how differently RPGs were built back then, and what’s sorely missing from most role-playing experiences today.

Pillars of Eternity

Price: R499 (currently R199 on sale)

Another outstanding classic Obsidian RPG, Pillars of Eternity might best be known today for its colourful fantasy setting thanks to Avowed, but the original game still holds up remarkably well. Layers upon layers of complex storytelling and class build potential, there are few role-playing experiences with as much depth as Pillars of Eternity. It’s on the slightly more expensive side compared to other games on this list but it’s worth every cent you invest in it.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

Price: R359

If the sequel failed to capture your attention, rest assured the original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is an exceptional role-playing game. While visually and mechanically dated, Bloodlines is still a worthwhile journey today thanks to its clever writing, engaging plot and characters, and its ingenious twists to the vampiric mythos.

Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights

Price: R185

If an MMORPG is more your flavour, the classic D&D Neverwinter Nights still (surprisingly) has a dedicated community playing each day. In my experiences, most veterans – which you will inevitably run into – are very welcoming of new players and may gladly help you complete quests without asking for anything. The sequel, which is also on sale on GOG, has a slightly larger player base but either one is worth checking out for D&D fans.

Final Fantasy VII

Price: R116

Arguably the most popular entry on this list, Final Fantasy VII really needs no introduction. A landmark achievement in RPGs, it’s a behemoth of a game that delivers one of the most well-known (and well-told) stories in gaming. Despite its age, it still manages to grab you with its terrific cast of characters, exciting turn-based gameplay, a magnificent soundtrack, and storytelling with hard-hitting emotional moments.

Divine Divinity

Price: R65

I’ve saved the best for last. Divine Divinity from Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios may look a little too old-school on the surface but it’s actually one of the best RPGs ever made. What makes it so special isn’t just the incredible writing (which Larian is known for) but the rich, detailed lore and world-building constantly happening. It’s incredibly immersive and rewarding once you understand its complexities and there’s simply nothing like it out there. It’s probably also a good time to play it with the next big Divinity game on the way.

1. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is probably one of the greatest games ever made. It was so broken at launch, I couldn't finish it, because I couldn't get on a boat to escape. But that didn't stop me, it was such a great game, they patched it quickly. But some of the bugs were pretty bad. But there will never ever be a game like it again. It's such an amazing experience, and the world is such a great place. Soundtrack is amazing also,

2. The Witcher 1 can also be played on a low end PC and it's one of my favourite games ever made, till this day. Even Witcher 2 and 3 failed to capture the atmosphere and world that Witcher 1 had.

3. Knights Of The Old Republic 2 - need I say more

A nice list. Still got Jade Empire waiting in my back compat backlog and need to finish Pillars of Eternity at some point. All great choices and many of the older ones preserved more through the modding community than the original devs/pubs.

A few other I'd recommend are:
1) Dread Delusion - a really compact and trippy RPG with strong Morrowind inspirations (now on PC and all consoles)
2) Regions of Ruin: Ruingate - you can skip the first game and jump straight into this weird but fun hybrid of RPG-lite, city-builder, and 2D action game (PC only at the moment but the first came to consoles later).
3) Sovereign Syndicate - more of an RPG-visual novel hybrid with a dice-roll system disguised as tarot cards. Perhaps a little too long for its own good with backtracking, but great atmosphere and a lot of excellent writing (PC and consoles now).
